It's been so long since I got some time in the wor

It's been so long since I got some time in the workshop that I was completely in my element today building this Bailey Chair for the gorgeous Charlie!

Charlie has been diagnosed with Megaesophagus, a condition where a dog's esophagus becomes enlarged, making it difficult for them to swallow food and water properly. A Bailey Chair is a specialized chair designed to help dogs with megaesophagus eat in an upright position, allowing gravity to aid in the passage of food into the stomach. It's a crucial tool in managing this condition, providing comfort and improving digestion for our furkids.

Bailey's pawrents have taken the unfinished Bailey Chair home for testing so that we can see if any adjustments are necessary before I put on the final touches of padding and sealing the chair. I'm excited for the final product and I truly hope that this gives Charlie and his pawrents many years of comfort and security. Watch this space!

Finally got to spend some time in the workshop building some car ramp orders. I feel like I haven't had any time in the workshop since adopting little Levi 🐾 (who was NOT particularly happy to not be in the workshop WITH me)

The kids next door asked if they could come and help me and they were in their element using their creativity to build little goodies from the offcuts bin. Very sweet. 😁

Will get back in the workshop tomorrow to start staining the ramps. Felt really good to be building again. 😁 But now....time for the women's Wimbledon finals....go Ons! 🎉

This is gorgeous Gemma. She's 14 years old and struggles with weakness in her hind legs. She can no longer jump up into the car and Gemma's Mom has had to pick her up into the car.

This awesome Dog Mom contacted me to find out about solutions and I took through a ramp and step for her to try out. Gemma goes to Underwater Treadmill treatment with the amazing team at @equinelibriumcpt, has regular physio with fabulous Lorren of @petwellnessworx , accupuncture with lovely Dr May Maritz and is in and out of the car a lot.

This solution is really going to help both Gemma and her Mom and will really ease the stress on Gemma's joints from jumping out of the car. This clever girl took to the ramp immediately (treat motivated dogs often do really well quite quickly).

Being in the industry, I so often have people aski

Being in the industry, I so often have people asking for ramps because their dog is injured or is too old or in pain to jump onto the bed, couch or into the car!

I'm a huge advocate for getting them used to ramps from a young age in order to prevent degenerative diseases like osteoarthritis and IVDD later in life, which can be caused from pressure and shock to the joints when jumping.

I always tell clients to see this as an investment in their doggies' futures...a ramp can save you thousands in possible vet bills later on in life. Give your furbaby the best possible start and invest in a ramp before you THINK they need one.

Also,. it's so much easier to teach them when they're young. 😉

PS... always use ramps under supervision when in the training stage!

Today is National "Change a Pet's Life Day" and I thought it fitting that this video of my girl Emmy came up as a memory today on Facebook. This was 5 years ago, after having Cruciate Ligament Surgery and doing regular rehab at @equinelibriumcpt

Although this day is primarily aimed at promoting dog adoption, fostering and supporting animal welfare (ALL of which is extremely important), I wanted to bring attention to the amazing Vet Physios out there who are dedicated to the health and wellbeing of our furry children.

I have found that many people I've chatted to are not even aware that Veterinary Physiotherapy is so freely available and makes such a difference in the lives of our fur children. So this post is to raise some awareness of the awesome Vet Physios out there. Whilst I cannot list all of them, I certainly have no hesitation in recommending @petwellnessworx and Equine Librium, both of whom take regular care of both of my old girls. @capeanimalphysiotherapy is another I highly recommend, based on experiences of friends and having seen the great work they do first-hand.

So, whether you honour this day by supporting an animal charity in some way, adopt or foster an animal in need, or simply explore the option of physiotherapy for your older or injured dogs, let's all Change a Pet's Life today for the better.

With loadshedding and the holidays, it's been difficult to build much, but I was very happy to deliver this custom ramp for the gorgeous Tinkerbell this weekend.

Tinkerbell took to the ramp immediately and we have one very happy Dog Mom who doesn't have to keep getting up to open the door. 🤣

Sealed with my favourite @woodoc_food_for_wood Waterborne Marine with a Meranti tint, to protect against the elements.

It was Veterinary Physiotherapists Day yesterday..

It was Veterinary Physiotherapists Day yesterday...I'm a bit slow on the draw but, as far as I'm concerned, EVERY DAY should be Vet Physio Day! 😁

What a difference our wonderful Vet Physios have made in our lives. Emmy has had two cruciate surgeries since 2017 and Zoe had a luxating patella op in January. Emmy has also developed osteoarthritis. Without our wonderful team, the girls would not be doing nearly as well.

So thank you to Lorren of @petwellnessworx , Olivia, Kim, Monica and Mia of @equinelibriumcpt and @vet.physio.kirst of @capeanimalphysiotherapy (who never treated either of the girls but was a student we met at Equine Librium who has gone on to be an amazing physio who treats a few friends' babies.)

You are all truly appreciated and highly recommended. For anyone who wasn't aware that animals could have physiotherapy too...it is the best thing you could do for them and the people I've mentioned here are the best in Cape Town. Give them all a follow to see the amazing work they do treating post-op animals, older animals and sporting animals.

Back to Juba, Spike and Charlie...this time for The Beastlet, a slightly smaller version of The Beast. 😁

With Juba suffering from Spondylosis, navigating stairs is painful, so his awesome mom contacted me a few weeks back for a solution...enter The Beast. That worked so well for Juba and the rest of the family that his mom commissioned me to make another ramp to help them at the back door.

Because both ramps are outside and exposed to the elements, I sealed them in Woodoc Waterborne Marine with a Beaufort Grey tint to ensure that they stay in great condition for years to come.

I think they all approve. 😁

I bought this @microjig Matchfit system ages ago and have just not found the time to build the Taper Jig. I am SO thrilled I finally got it done...this jig is going to be a lifesaver and I can't wait to use it in projects.

My new clients have two beautiful older chihuahuas

My new clients have two beautiful older chihuahuas, Frieda and Karel (scroll for a cuteness overload). Karel is partially blind and Frieda has a bad back so I was commissioned to design and build a ramp with railings on both sides to get them safely on and off the bed.

To ensure that they don't wander off the bed at night, I built folding barriers that can be tucked away under the bed with the folding ramp during the day. The side railings can also be removed easily and tucked under the bed so that the room is neat and clutter-free.

I really enjoyed this build and I hope it makes Frieda and Karel's life easier and gives their pawrents peace of mind. ❤️🐶🐶

The Boometime Babies getting physio treatments from Lorren of @petwellnessworx ...and loving it.

With age and injuries, dogs (and us humans) often compensate and put extra pressure on other joints and muscles to protect the areas of pain or weakness. Regular physio is so helpful and to have a physio visit the dogs at home where they're most comfortable is so convenient.

Lorren plays relaxing spa music and it's like having a Doggie Spa day...I was actually jealous - that reminds me - I need it book a spa day. 🤣

Of course, let's not forget the girls' other amazing physios....all of which we highly recommend....@equinelibriumcpt and @capeanimalphysiotherapy ...give your furkids the best!

Meet Zian and Zizi! Their mom called me needing a

Meet Zian and Zizi! Their mom called me needing a ramp a few weeks back. Because she has an SUV, the standard ramp wouldn't work as is, since the incline would be too steep. But their mom was keen to get them using the ramp soonest...so we improvised. I had a small couch step I was ready to stain...we used it to lift the ramp off the ground for a better angle. Worked like a bomb.

Their mom sent me videos of their first day in training and they took to the ramp like pros. Now, it's second nature for them as they go on their daily walks to the greenbelt. Aren't they just too gorgeous?

The ramp makes it so much easier for them to get in and out of the car without injury and relieve pressure on their backs and legs. Their mom told me it's been a lifesaver. My heart is happy. ❤️🐕🐕

Affectionately named "The Beast", this is the largest dog ramp I've made to-date. Check out my reels to see it in use.

Juba, Spike and Charlie love their enclosed wraparound patio, which gives them amazing views over the street and all the neighbourhood goings-on, but Juba has been diagnosed with Spondylosis of the spine, which made it harder for him to use the steep steps leading up to and down from the patio.

What completely warmed my heart, was the message I received from their mom a few days after delivering the ramp, telling me how much easier "The Beast" has made life for all three of them and how it's easier and no longer too painful for Juba to get down to the garden with his siblings.

They are such gorgeous doggos and I'm privileged to have met them and so grateful for the opportunity to help them.

Juba suffers from Spondylosis (arthritis of the spine) and his mom wanted to make sure he could comfortably get up and down the steep steps leading up to the house.

Enter "The Beast", the largest ramp I've designed and built to date.

All three doggos took the ramp immediately upon delivery and their mom is so happy that she could make their lives easier and protect them from injury. It made my heart so happy to see them loving the ramp and, after testing it out a few times, I swear Juba was giving me hugs. 😍

This giant wedge ramp was made for an awesome family with 7 beautiful rescue dogs.

Gorgeous Toby is an old man now (he's 17 years old), struggles with his sight and can't jump up on the couch anymore. It warms my heart to know that he can again chill on the couch with the rest of his family. ❤️

One his sisters (Miss Casey) was adopted from Mauritius, where she lived with cats and was always sleeping on the tables. I'm told she's now taken to sleeping on the ramp in the sun during the day, instead of on the dining room table. 🤣 It's good to know that the ramp is getting use (in different ways 🤣) from all of the four legged kids.

Since Emmy and Zoe have both had to have hugely expensive knee surgeries, I wish that I had been as forward-thinking as my latest client, who ordered not one, but two, custom ramps from me.

She has a gorgeous long-haired daschund, named Strawberry and wanted a ramp for her bed so that Strawberry didn't need to jump. Sadly, she lost her boy, Duke to IVDD and instantly vowed to protect her pups from the same fate by getting them used to ramps from the start.

A new addition, Coco was arriving and she wanted Coco to have a ramp set up before he arrived at his new home. I delivered the Zig-Zig ramp 2 weeks ago and yesterday delivered Strawberry's ramp. (Check my Zig-Zag Ramp story highlights for some gorgeous puppy ramp moments.)

Most people think about ramps and steps for their dogs only once they get too old to jump, or have had surgery. As my client said, investing in these ramps from the very beginning would save a fortune in potential future vet bills.

The best advice I could give new doggie owners is to (a) immediately take out pet insurance and (b) either not allow the dogs on beds and couches where they would have to jump (yeah, right LOL), or invest in Ramps or steps and get them used to using them from the beginning. Your doggies (and your bank account) will thank you in the long run 😉

My client wanted a solution for a very small puppy

My client wanted a solution for a very small puppy to reach a pretty high bed, but without a really long ramp, so I came up with this design, which has two inclines of 18 degrees with a switchback.

I was on a time crunch for this one, as the puppy was arriving on Sunday and my client wanted to ensure that, from the moment the puppy came home, he learned not to jump on and off the furniture and was trained to use the ramp immediately. I love such responsible dog owners. Doing what I do, (and having experienced injuries with my OWN dogs), you hear of so many injuries that could have been prevented if doggies weren't able to jump on and off furniture. Unfortunately, my client had learned the hard way, when her precious Dachshund developed IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) which is so common in this breed. She told me that she wished she had known earlier about the potential hazards caused by jumping, as she would have done anything to keep him safe.

So, I delivered the ramp bright and early on Sunday morning and the new puppy arrived later in the day and training has already begun. The clever little guy has taken to his ramp so quickly. As soon as I have more pictures from her, I'll share those. My beautiful Emmy turned 10 today, so we had to have a family celebration.

Thanks so much to @pupcakesdogbakery_sa for the amazing Barkday Box and to @all_things_love_a_lee for the beautiful bandanas.

The girls LOVED their treats and I was amazed by the beautiful presentation and quality of their Barkday Box which included doggie ice-creams, a huge quantity of specially baked biscuits and an awesome cake.

And, didn't they look smart in their personalised bandanas?! ❤️😁
